Ambassador Saman Chandrasiri Presents Credentials to the President of Israel
The newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the State of Israel, H.E. Saman Chandrasiri, presented his Letter of Credence to H.E. Isaac Herzog, President of the State of Israel, on 3 August 2026 at Beit HaNassi, the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.
President Herzog warmly welcomed Ambassador Chandrasiri and wished him success during his tenure in Israel. He fondly recalled the visit to Sri Lanka undertaken by his late father, former President Chaim Herzog, and highlighted the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Israel.
During their discussion, President Herzog recognized the valuable contribution made by Sri Lankan workers to the Israeli economy and described labour relations between the two countries as a mutually beneficial partnership. He also observed that Sri Lanka holds a special place in the hearts of Israeli travellers, who greatly appreciate its natural beauty, warm hospitality and unique experiences.
Ambassador Chandrasiri conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of H.E. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of Sri Lanka, and the people of Sri Lanka. He expressed Sri Lanka’s interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in agricultural technology, defence and trade. The Ambassador emphasized that the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries provide a firm foundation for expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Chandrasiri brings 25 years of experience in public service, having served in Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence and Department of Immigration and Emigration. His professional experience includes institutional capacity-building, migration management, training and international cooperation. He holds a Bachelor of Science Special Degree in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
